Join Kershaw County School District for a back-to-school tailgate event with fun activities and resources to help prepare for kindergarten.

Gem mining, Petting Zoo, Educational Booths, Obstacle Curse, Lego Robotics, Story Time Booth, Library Book mobile, Face painting, Bilingual Informational packages, books to take home.

Children will receive free school supplies such as book bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, hand sanitizer, crayons, pencils, and notebooks. Tables and stations with learning activities will be set up to give parents and children an opportunity to play together, facilitating learning through play. Activities will emphasize social-emotional learning through connected, parent-child interactions, as well as the value of outdoor and physical play for school readiness and overall well being.

The children's carnival will have rides, an early childhood-related performer, games designed around the Countdown to Kindergarten and Countdown to 4K Curriculum, giveaways like books appropriate for this age-group as well as awards for completing Countdown to Kindergarten, Countdown to 4K, and the Library's Summer Reading Program. The carnival will share skills and information about the Countdown to Kindergarten and Countdown to 4K programs in a fun and interactive way

During Countdown to Kindergarten, children will prepared for the kindergarten experience and classroom by engaging with a teacher, a classroom, and new types of learning, setting the expectation for the young student and their caregiver about what to expect in school. There will be a structured lesson, unstructured playtime, and discussion. Included in this event, children will take home a copy of the book used in the lesson and a bag of activities and information for the families to use in preparation for school. Also, museum entry tickets will be included with those who participate in the event to encourage more play-based learning on the day.
